GRANTS - The Grants Pirates basketball teams are heading into District play on a bit of a downturn.
The Pirate boys (12-6 overall) are on a three-game losing streak, following losses to the Capital Jaguars and St Michael’s Horsemen. The Jaguars beat Grants, 79-57, and St Michael's won a close one, 69-67. The Pirates will have their first district matchup TONIGHT as they will travel to Los Lunas to take on the 10-7 Valencia Jaguars. In the latest NMOT Coaches poll, the Pirates check in at No. 9 while the Jaguars check in at No. 10.
The Lady Pirates (3-14 overall), meanwhile, also dropped a pair of games last week - to Miyamura and Pojoaque Valley. This relatively-young squad will be looking to make noise in a very tough District 5-4A. The Lady Pirates are at HOME tonight against Valencia (10-7).
