GRANTS- On Friday April 10, the Grants Pirates defeated the Belen Eagles at home, in the battle of the undefeated in the District. Senior Zeth Villasana hit the walk-off hit to send the Pirates off with the 3-2 win.
That kept the Pirates undefeated at 4-0 in District play, while the Belen Eagles fell to 2-1 in the District. Senior Estevan Barela also contributed to the Pirates win, pitching all seven innings, recording six strikeouts; he also only allowed five hits and two runs to the Eagles.
Barela also batted three times, getting one hit and plating one run.
Some of the other notable Grants hitters include Floyd Lee, who went one for two at the plate and scored a run, sophomore Daniel Garcia who had one RBI, junior Derrek Rhodes who scored one run and also had a hit, and Villasana who recorded one hit as well as two RBIs while only batting twice, with one of those at bats bringing in the game winning run.
The Valencia Jaguars will travel to The Port on Friday the 17th to take on the red hot Grants Pirates, who are on an eight-game game winning streak.
