
Attention GCCS Community: On 09/8/2022 at approximately 2:45 pm, a Grants High School Student was found in possession of a firearm (handgun), concealed in his backpack. The handgun was empty and there was no ammunition found. Grants Police was notified and responded immediately. They detained and removed the student from the campus and took the handgun into evidence. These situations are taken with extreme seriousness so all legal avenues and policies will be adhered to according to district policy and state law.
The GHS security team handled this situation quickly, therefore no further action was deemed necessary and operations resumed to normal at 3:10 p.m.

The next GCCS School Board Meeting has been scheduled.

ATTN GCCS Community: At approximately 12:30 p.m. on 08/31/2022, Mesa View Elementary School was evacuated due a strong odor of gas. The Local gas company, PNM, was notified and responded immediately. Students and staff were evacuated to the Parent Parking Lot. PNM staff shut off all gas lines to conduct a thorough check and all students and staff returned to classes at 2:00 p.m. without further incident. Mesa View Elementary School will be closed on Thursday, September 1st, to ensure that all of the necessary means, to include hot water, are available for sanitary purposes.

Attention GCCS Community –
At approximately 1:00 pm today, we were made aware of a threat on Social Media regarding a student threatening another with a firearm. The GCCS security personal and Grants Police Department responded immediately. The school was sheltered in place and the individual making the threat was detained. An “All Clear” was pronounced at approximately 1:15 pm and the school has resumed normal operation.

We are excited to welcome back our Kindergarten-6th Grade students tomorrow🐾
The first bell will ring at 7:55. Parents, you will be allowed to walk your child to their class on Thursday and Friday only for the safety of all staff and students.
